This group will appeal to walkers who enjoy a relaxed walk. The aim is to have one walk a month on different days of the week.

Walks will be between 4 and 6 miles.

The walks will be local or within easy travelling distance of Lymm/Thelwall.

The walks will start at a pub or cafe and end with lunch or a snack in the pub/cafe. Walkers have the option of

a) the walk

or

b) the walk with lunch.

May 2026 Alvanley and Frodsham

On Tuesday 19th of May, thirteen walkers set off from the White Lion, Alvanley, Frodsham on a circular walk of 6 miles. The route took in fields, roads, country paths, Frodsham Hill and Snidley Moor which is managed by the Woodland Trust. Lots of birdsong in the woods (using a wonderful App called ‘Merlin’ to identify individual birdsong) and clumps of late Spring wildflowers.

Despite overcast skies there were excellent views of the River Mersey Estuary and the Liverpool city scape. Good progress was made on a 6 mile walk and we were back in time to miss all but ten minutes of rain and to have an excellent lunch at the White Lion. April 2026 Lyme Park

A gloriously sunny day in April saw a group of 4-6ers taking in the delights of Lyme Park. On paths flat and rocky, high and low we enjoyed outstanding views over open moorland, the Cheshire plain and the Manchester cityscape. A sweeping Swallow at the start was a good ‘nature omen’ for the day with groups of deer in several places, a slow-moving toad and abundant wildflowers of various colours. We walked, we chatted, we breathed in good country air. Nothing could be better!         

March 2006 Marburuy

A great walk from the Anderton Boat Lift. Across the fields around Barton to Marbury Park and then through the Park..

Februaruy 2006 Parkgate

It was cold and grey but the setting was stunning as Neil led the group out from the Boat House at Parkgate and along the King Charles III Coastal Path, up on the Wirral. The rectangular route was busy, particularly coming back along the Wirral Way, it being half term. Food and service were excellent in the Boat House afterwards.

January 2026 Tatton Surprise – the surprise being that Tatton itself was entirely uninvolved as it is closed on a Monday in the winter- who knew!!! Our intended destination having discreetly closed its doors, we embarked instead on a philosophical ramble into the unknown. Armed with good humour, relaxed spirits and an admirable lack of panic, the group demonstrated that the true purpose of walking is not where one goes, but how cheerfully one gets lost.

With no fixed destination or certainty, we were nevertheless guided with great confidence (and no visible disagreement) by Neil, James Peter, who led us safely through terrain both familiar and entirely unexpected. Thanks to their stewardship — and possibly fate — we were returned intact to the pub, just in time for lunch, which proved to be the most reliable landmark of the day.

Christmas Social Walk December 2024                                   

Thirty-eight members gathered for our Christmas Walk from Lymm Dam, through the village down Slitten Gorge and ending up in Spud Wood, via The Trans Pennine Way and Reddish Lane.  A number of Members joined along the route and they were even followed on Live Location by Peter who was unable to walk. Coffee. mince pies, chatter and laughter were shared at Spud Wood and even a bit of Community singing!!
